Province of CHIMBORAZO.
From 2 up to 20 participants (there will be a guide for every other participant).
Chimborazo is the tallest volcano in Ecuador with an elevation of 6.310 m/20.702 ft and one of the greatest challenges to national and foreign mountaineers worldwide. It is situated in the central Andes only 150 km to the southeast of Quito. Interestingly, its summit is the farthest point of earth’s surface from the center of the planet, given that the diameter of the land is greater at the equatorial latitude than at the latitude where Everest is located.
At the beginning of the 19th century, Chimborazo was considered to be the tallest mountain in the World, which drew many fearless explorers, who came to conquer the mighty goal of summiting. Among them was Edward Whimper, along with his brother Carrel, who finally made the first successful summit attempt in 1880.
Today, this immense mountain demands that those who dare to climb are in good physical shape. Also, the acclimatization requires good technical capability and knowledge because of the constantly changing conditions, due to the receding glaciers caused by global warming and the falling ashes of Tungurahua, a nearby active volcano.
