Our six days Ocean Program is a complete package allowing the unique opportunity to visit three islands in the Galapagos Archipelago: Isabela, Santa Cruz, and Floreana – the southern most inhabited and greenest island in the Galapagos. You will be able to snorkel with sharks in Isabela and with sea-lions in Floreana,   feet the Giant Land Tortoises in the natural environment in Santa Cruz. You will also be taken through some of the most awesome landscapes within the Archipelago, from the moonlike terrain of Sierra Negra Volcano, the second largest volcanic crater in the world, to the green Escalacia forests of Santa Cruz, all while being accompanied by our bilingual naturalist guides and staying comfortably at our choice selection of hotels.

Itinerary

DAY 1:
Our English speaking guide will be waiting for you at the airport in Baltra, who will take you to the port of Puerto Ayora (Santa Cruz Island) for lunch. Afterwards, we will take the public speedboat to Isabela (14:00),  approximately two and a half hours. After arriving at Isabela, we will take a brief rest at the hotel and then head to the Flamingo Lagoon, which is the largest coastal lagoon found in the Galapagos and is one of the main reproductive sites for the majority of flamingos.

DAY 2:
Early in the morning after breakfast, we will have a full day tour of the Sierra Negra Volcan. This volcano is located 13 miles from Puerto Villamil and is the world’s second largest volcanic crater, measuring 6 miles in diameter and 300 feet deep. We will hike the crater and enjoy the view of the beach below before continuing on to Volcan Chico, a still active volcano which warms the surrounding ground. (Box lunch will be provided). In the afternoon, we will return to the hotel and later we will have the opportunity to go snorkeling in Concha Perla, where we will ba able to swim with sea-lions and see a variety of colorful fish, starfish, and sea urchins. (Snorkelling equipment is included in this visit: tube, mask, fins).

DAY 3:
After breakfast, we will visit the Tintores Islet; It is called like this due to a large crevice,  with very clear calm water in where the white-tip sharks known as “tintoreras” come daily to rest on the bottom. As a ¨Tintorera¨ we will also have the chance to watch other native animals to the region like penguins, and sea lions, and go snorkeling with sharks. On the afternoon we visit Humedales Complex inluding The Giant Tortoise Breeding Center, the famous “Muro de las Lágrimas”, the enormous lava rocks wall built during the times Isabella Island was designated as a penal colony (1946 to 1959) . Additionally, we will visit “Mirador Orchidia” and el “estero de Isabela”.

Day 4:
Early in the morning (06:00 am), we will take the public speedboat from Isabela to Puerto Ayora, where the guide will be waiting for us to take breakfast and check in at the hotel. Immediately, we will begin our visit to the Highlands of Santa Cruz Island. In this place we can enjoy a wonderful visit to see giant tortoises in their natural habitat. After lunch in the Highlands, we will return to Puerto Ayora and go to the Charles Darwin Research Station and its interpretive Center. Here we will have the great opportunity to see a large variety of Giant Galápagos tortoises as representatives to the most important islands on the archipelago.

DAY 5:
After breakfast we go to the dock to take our speed boat L/P Oceano or similar to start the navigation to Floreana Island which it will take us approximately 2 ½. The first stop point for doing snorkeling Floreana Lobery. In the afternoon we get ready to visit Floreana highlands, where we will watch the caves that pirates used by years ago, the Asylum of Peace (viewpoint) and the ancient habitat of Wittmer, one of the earliest inhabitants of the island. We are going to have the opportunity to watch how inhabitants extract fresh water from this island and we can taste this vital liquid. Return to Puerto Ayora.

DAY 6:
After breakfast, we will travel to Baltra Airport, but on the way we will stop by “The Twins” (a.k.a. “The Gemelos”), which are similar craters formed by a collapse of the Earth because of the lava flows that passed below it. We will also pass through an escalecia forest, where it will be possible to encounter Galapagos Fly-Catchers and other endemic birds. The tour will end upon the arrival to the airport where you will return to Quito or Guayaquil. – B –
